Today only, save up to 70% on two of Joss Whedon's hit TV series. "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, a young girl who hunts vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. At the end of 2008 I paid $50.99 for Angel and $69.99 for Buffy. Prices haven't changed much in 5 years. (good deal on the Buffy, though)

Actually this set is a bit different-sadly so-from what you would've purchased in 2008. Yours-released in 2005-had 40 discs. This one has 39 and was released in October 2010 (the date is what tipped me off). Sucky Fox and lucky you, though! The 40th disc's material that this set lacks:

¤Introduction by Joss Whedon
¤Back to the Hellmouth: A Conversation with Creators
and Cast - with Joss Whedon, Marti Noxon, David Fury, Drew Goddard, Jane Espenson, Nicholas Brendon, Charisma Carpenter, Emma Caulfield, and Danny Strong
¤Breaking Barriers: It's Not a Chick Fight Thing
¤Love Bites: Relationships in the Buffyverse
¤Evil Fiends Buffy: An Unlikely Role Model
¤Buffy Cast and Crew: Favorite Episodes

Edited to add: The Angel contents appear identical BUT I saw reviews and a website that state that this rectangular packaging is much more sturdy and visually pleasant than the glue-bound earlier box set for Buffy and Angel alike. I'm sure that is a good trade-off for having to search for those extras on YouTube or DailyMotion etc :)

Fox seems to have a strange attitude about its own potentially profitable products. They are years, not just seasons, behind in releasing The Simpsons and King of the Hill. How hard can this be? They can't be that expensive to produce anymore, and the profit margin would seem to be large enough to motivate them. But no . . .

I've got the two sets in the cube shape packaging, with the DVDs in individual plastic trays, each season in sort of a book like binder. I prefer it to these box packaging as the cubes fit on the shelves with regular DVDs cases. Haven't had any problems with the cases holding up.

If you bought it from Amazon and haven't opened it yet, then call about a price match. If they say no, then return the old one for a minimal shipping fee and buy the new one.

As there are no Blu-ray versions listed, "forgetaboutit".
By the titles, I'd be mightily tempted... BUT,
Blu-ray is high definition, DVD is SD, so "forgetaboutit".

For now. Amazon has a limited time arrangement and with more companies (see: Warner Bros.) moving towards creating their own streaming options, it's quite possible that Amazon will at one point stop streaming Buffy, Angel, and other beloved series. Even in this wondrous age of digital downloads, the only security is physical media. (And this comes from a guy that LOVES Netflix, Amazon Prime, Vudu, etc.)

Is that the Chosen Collection with the 40th disc?

Hell, is this show even worth seeing? I love Firefly, but I've only seen a couple episode of Buffy on Netflix.

Buffy is the greatest TV show of this millennium. Way better Firefly, and it makes shows like Mad Men or The Sopranos look like cat poop.

Lynn,

In my opinion, Buffy is worth watching, whether on disc or Prime/Netflix. Sarah Michelle Gellar did a great job in the role. Lots of strange things go on in Sunnydale at the HellMouth.

Angel is ok also. I pretty much like anything by Joss Whedon. Since Angel has been on TNT every morning for the longest, sometimes two episodes back to back, I kinda got my fill of Angel. I just not a big David Boreanaz fan but still like the show.
